As children we found natural ways to comfort ourselves. We found pacifiers, blankets, stuffies and all those things that made us feel safe and at peace. What are we doing now as adults to soothe ourselves? Some find yoga and meditation to be helpful.
As a counselor I teach kids and adults daily positive ways to provide self care so that we are continuously knowing our bodies and fueling them with positive healing growth.
The following article eloquently discusses how we can easily engage our children with self care/soothing strategies that can be used through adulthood. If we teach these techniques now maybe we will see a decrease in adults with overwhelming fears, lack of compassion for self, and an increase in respect for their minds and bodies.
